90 minutes of service learning

On Wednseday May 28th we are having a 90 minute service learning period. During this period I want my group to discuess important issues about our project such as, are we raising enough money and if not how can we get more, are we still giving books to the hospitle, are we going to the hospitle to help play with the kids and if so who are we sending over there. Also I think that we need to talk about how we can improove our little ice cream and water ice business because the last time we sold we were unorganized. I think that we will have a good meting tomorrow and I expect us to get alot of work done.

May 12th - May 16th Servace Learning Reflection

On Friday May 9th my servace learning group came together for another meting. This time we discused what resources we needed to start selling the water ice and ice cream. We said that we needed someone to bring in cups, spoons, a scooper to scoop the water ice out, ice cream and the water ice. Diffrent people were put in charge to buy these diffrent things. My job was to make posters to put up so that everyone knew that we were selling water ice and ice cream for the hospital.

May 5th - 9th Service Learning Reflection

On Thursday May 1st my service learning group had a meting. At this meting we discussed how we are going to raise money for the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. We thought of different ideas such as having a garage sell, selling pretzels, candy, sodas, or pizzas at the school. By the end of the meting we had all decided to sell water ice and ice cream to the school at lunch time. We had also thought of collecting books to donate to the hospital.

Service learning reflection

At the last service learning meeting we talked about what were going to do for CHOP and how we are going to do it. we said that we want to donate books to their library and that we should sell ice cream in school to get the money. I think that this is a good idea and we should work on doing it. We also talked about our roles in the project. I found out that my job was to make posters advertising what we are selling. Then i have to put them up around the school.
At the next meeting i hope that we will be able to start selling things and making money for the kids in need.

Barack Obama

On Tuesday, 3/18/08, at the National Constitution Center, Barack Obama delivered a speech on a subject that no other candidate running for president had to go into so much detail about, his religion and his race. He was forced to condemn the Rev. Jeremiah Wright's words that have put him in an awkward and uncomfortable position. At the same time they have given him a chance to discuss race with white Americans. He talked about how he has a black father and a white mother and he has family of different races all over the world. He also mentioned his white grandmother who was not racist but would be afraid when she saw a black man walking down the street, she sometimes spoke racial slurs that would make Obama cringe. He ended by saying that he cannot disown he friend and pastor Jeremiah Wright just like he can not disown his grandmother because they are apart of his family.

NHD Reflection

For my NHD project I created an exibit that showed the conflict and compromise of the great depression. This year was the first time that i have ever participated in NHD so when I first started this project I didnt know that i had to do so much research. Because of my lack of research i struggled towards the end of the project but i was lucky to have friends in my group that could help me. Even though i was unexperienced i still had a lot of fun putting together my bord. Next year i think that i will do an exibit again but i will have more research.
