Barack Obama

On Tuesday, 3/18/08, at the National Constitution Center, Barack Obama delivered a speech on a subject that no other candidate running for president had to go into so much detail about, his religion and his race. He was forced to condemn the Rev. Jeremiah Wright's words that have put him in an awkward and uncomfortable position. At the same time they have given him a chance to discuss race with white Americans. He talked about how he has a black father and a white mother and he has family of different races all over the world. He also mentioned his white grandmother who was not racist but would be afraid when she saw a black man walking down the street, she sometimes spoke racial slurs that would make Obama cringe. He ended by saying that he cannot disown he friend and pastor Jeremiah Wright just like he can not disown his grandmother because they are apart of his family.
